Skincare guide for the driest months in Mexico

Guía de skincare para los meses más secos en México - TEIA Cosméticos

If you live in Mexico, you know that the dry months can be especially tough on your skin. The dry, cold weather tends to dehydrate and sensitize our skin, so it's essential to adapt our skincare routine to keep it hydrated and protected. Today I'll share two essential techniques: how to properly apply your skincare to a wet face and how to make the most of layering based on your skin type.

Why apply your skincare on a wet face?

You may have heard this advice, but do you really know why it works? When you apply your natural cosmetics to damp skin, especially your serums and moisturizers, you're sealing water into the skin. This method helps maintain hydration for longer, reducing transepidermal water loss (which causes feelings of dryness and tightness).

How to master the layering technique?

It's very simple:

  1. Wash your face with a gentle, natural cleanser.
  2. Don't dry your skin completely. Pat dry with a clean towel, leaving your skin damp.
  3. First, apply a hydrating toner to rebalance your skin. We recommend our niacinamide toner or hyaluronic acid toner.
  4. If you use a serum, apply it immediately afterward to maximize moisture and allow the active ingredients to penetrate better. We recommend our peptide serum.
  5. Finish with a moisturizer rich in natural ingredients that form a protective barrier, such as shea butter, hyaluronic acid, or plant oils. We recommend our squalene and hyaluronic acid cream.

What is layering and how to take advantage of it?

Layering is a technique originating in Korean cosmetics that involves applying multiple products in thin layers, from the lightest to the heaviest. This allows each product to work effectively and improve your skin's hydration and protection, especially during the drier months, when deep hydration is key to keeping skin soft and protected.

Adding an oil-based product, such as a natural facial oil, to the end of your routine is ideal for these months, as it forms an additional barrier that seals in all the previously provided hydration.

Layering according to your skin type

Dry skin

Prioritize the use of hydrating serums and creams with thicker, more nourishing textures. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid and natural oils are key to keeping your skin hydrated throughout the day. Add a facial oil rich in essential fatty acids at the end to seal in moisture. We recommend our dry skin serum.

Combination skin

Combine light layers on the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) and more nourishing layers on cheeks and other dry areas. Use light serums and a medium-textured cream, complementing drier areas with a light facial oil to balance your skin without overwhelming oily areas. We recommend our combination skin serum.

Oily skin

Opt for light layers, using water-based or gel serums and light emulsions. Choose a non-comedogenic facial oil (such as jojoba or squalane) to add a light top layer that locks in moisture without causing breakouts. We recommend our serum for oily skin.

Choose natural cosmetics in your routine

Always remember to choose natural cosmetics and clean beauty products that respect your skin and the environment, avoiding toxic ingredients like silicones, sulfates, or synthetic fragrances.
